This is probably the local favourite for both guests and staff, not only because it's just a 30 second walk from the hostel but also because it's a lively bar with an ideal location. A stylish and modern interior makes this the perfect place to drink your first Edinburgh pint. Catering for sports fans, there are big screens around the bar showing all major sporting events. If you feel like being sporty yourself there are a number of pool tables and football games at the back. The best feature though is the beer-garden overlooking the Links Park. On a Sunday afternoon you'll be able to have your drink outside watching a bunch of grown up men fighting each other in medievil costume!
Golf Tavern
Distance: 300m
This pub has been around for hundreds of years. It was recently refurbished and is now a well-liked 'watering hole'. The tavern attracts a lot of students because of it's location just beside the student accommodation. Still there is a mixed crowd of people and you'll always feel welcome. The walls are filled with golf memorabilia and framed golf balls that have won different competitions. There's even a gold plated frame of American Presidents who have been known as keen golfers. This is also the place to rent your golf clubs for a swing at the Links Golf Course just outside the pub. Leave a deposit and pay £2 for a whole day's rent. No green fee necessary.
Belfry Bar
Distance: 400m
As the name indicates, this is a secret hideaway. Most of the interior is bat shaped and there are plenty of secluded areas with very comfortable seating. If you come for one you'll probably be staying for a few. Shorter people might be intimidated by the high bar. Even though the bar staff looks like bats guarding high above the service is good. There's also an excellent bar menu for cheap lunches or evening meals. The nachos are recommended and the desserts are heavenly. This is also a good place to try some proper Scotch Whisky.
